Public Art Award!

I am pleased and excited to announce Abraham Awalom has been commissioned by Seattle Sound Transit for FIVE public murals to be installed outside the coming Downtown Redmond Light Rail Station! Construction on the station is currently underway and completion is projected for 2024.

Today we hosted a Zoom conference call with Abraham to meet with Sound Transit program managers and fellow artists to discuss the plans and commission details. Murals will be fabricated onto 6 ft x 12 ft enamed tile panels standing 10 feet in the air so train passengers and pedestrians alike can enjoy the works. Abraham is already hard at work in our studio, developing his ideas and working on preliminary sketches for his new series.

HUGE CONGRATULATIONS, ABRAHAM!!!

Covid-19 Virus Response

Covid-19 Virus Response

In times like this we are all refugees. Adapting to this crisis will take creativity on all fronts, and we are doing our best to rise to the challenge. While art may not be the first thing we think of as we worry about health and sustenance, let’s not forget to also keep our souls nourished. Children, especially, should be encouraged to get their feelings out ‘on paper’. Art heals.

For that reason, The Art of Saving Humanity is busy gathering grab bags of art supplies and coordinating local pickups. We have a finite supply and want to give to as many people as possible, so please feel free to reach out through our contact form if you would like art supplies for a project, but keep in mind that we are rationing and doing the best we can with what we have. Supplies are available for pickup only from Seattle, apologies for this inconvenience.

Be kind. Take care of one another. If nothing else, this crisis will remind us that we are one world. We are all in this together as human beings. Borders, race, religion, politics - none of these societal constructs separate our humanity. Going forward, let’s create a world that reflects this.

In light of a pandemic that threatens us all equally, let’s not miss the opportunity to create the kind of change that can truly save humanity.

Pottery Supply Donation Pickup

Today is hugely exciting, as an unprecedented art supply donation will be retrieved from an incredibly generous donor and relocated to The Art of Saving Humanity. Today we have been gifted everything needed to create a fully outfitted pottery studio: from a beautiful potter’s wheel and electric kiln to glaze mixes, sieves & scales, a variety of tools, and boxes and boxes of beautiful clay bodies.

We are eternally grateful to the generosity of Beverly Geary. This single donation will provide endless opportunities to so many artists.

Helping Reunite A Family

Helping Reunite A Family

December through February was a time of laser focus at The Art of Saving Humanity. We ceased our normal operations of workshops and donation distributions and stepped outside of our box to help an artist/friend/family member and his wife reunite with their young children after a four-year separation. It was a tense, anxiety-filled few months of close collaboration with Senator Maria Cantwell’s office and the U.S. Embassy in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

We are overjoyed to report that, despite a lengthy government shutdown, inhospitable immigration bans, and canceled asylum visas, we persevered to a beautiful family reunion that took place right on Valentine’s Day!

There will never be enough gratitude heaped on the incredible immigration specialist in Senator Cantwell’s office who stuck this through until the end. And there will never be a more remarkably fulfilling achievement in our lives.
