I am pleased and excited to announce Abraham Awalom has been commissioned by Seattle Sound Transit for FIVE public murals to be installed outside the coming Downtown Redmond Light Rail Station! Construction on the station is currently underway and completion is projected for 2024.

Today we hosted a Zoom conference call with Abraham to meet with Sound Transit program managers and fellow artists to discuss the plans and commission details. Murals will be fabricated onto 6 ft x 12 ft enamed tile panels standing 10 feet in the air so train passengers and pedestrians alike can enjoy the works. Abraham is already hard at work in our studio, developing his ideas and working on preliminary sketches for his new series.

The United Indians’ elders group will meet at the Labatayeh Youth Home for a printmaking workshop to create cards and prints of graphic tribal designs.

Today will be the final step in our ceramic beadmaking workshop. Our journey took us from handbuilding beads and pendants from raw clay through the glazing, bisque firing and final overglaze firing process, and now the local United Indians’ elders group will use their finished beads to craft jewelry as gifts for other tribe members.

Final glazes will be added today to the bisqued beads crafted by the United Indians’ elders group. This will be the last step in our beadmaking process before the final kiln firing!

The United Indians’ elders group will meet at the Labatayeh Youth Home for a follow-up beadmaking workshop to underglaze their dried clay beads in preparation for the bisque firing. Many styles were tried out last week, from feather and arrowhead pendants to simulated bone beads and everything in between!

Elders and youth at the United Indians’ Labatayeh Youth Home will meet for an introductory clay workshop. We’ll be bringing a supply of clay, tools, and ideas to share, with the goal of making beads for necklaces that will be gifted in this year’s annual veteran’s event, at the end of July. Beads will be rolled, dried & later bisque fired at The Art of Saving Humanity pottery studio to prepare for a future glazing workshop before the final firing. Stay tuned!

Today is hugely exciting, as an unprecedented art supply donation will be retrieved from an incredibly generous donor and relocated to The Art of Saving Humanity. Today we have been gifted everything needed to create a fully outfitted pottery studio: from a beautiful potter’s wheel and electric kiln to glaze mixes, sieves & scales, a variety of tools, and boxes and boxes of beautiful clay bodies.

We are eternally grateful to the generosity of Beverly Geary. This single donation will provide endless opportunities to so many artists.

We’ve been busy as usual finding potential opportunities. Today came another grant writing grind. Gathering materials, polishing ideas, filling out paperwork, submitting applications for the organization and for a participating artist. It’s a never-ending process of researching, planning, plotting & pursuing!

A fully outfitted painter’s studio, complete with easels, cabinets, utility sink, UV task lighting & expendables was set up at The Art of Saving Humanity for use by any eligible artists in need of a space to create! It has already been put to great use by one of our talented artists!

It’s time to distribute the proceeds from the St. Joseph Parish Holiday Bazaar!

We also have a new load of donated yarn to distribute to our knitters! Thank you to our wonderful donors.

Each year, Seattle's St. Joseph Parish features a Holiday Bazaar for artisans and non-profits from around the globe. This year, The Art of Saving Humanity was invited by the Seattle IRC to join forces and bring our local worldly artisans' crafts to a booth at this event, featuring a project made possible, in part, by a grant from 4Culture. If you're in the area Sunday, November 18th, be sure to stop by from 10am - 1pm to shop for unique gifts of hand crafted jewelry, basketry, wood carvings and knitted goods of all shapes and sizes!

It’s time to deliver the proceeds from the St. Joseph’s Parish Holiday Bazaar!!

With the donated time and skills of photographer and art therapist, Elizabeth Coon, jewelry designer Mohammad Sabori learns tips and tricks for product photography.

The seniors will be practicing their traditional dances to perform at a gala dinner. These gentlemen love to share their joy of dance!

A fresh donation drive resulted in more basket reed, yarn, and knitting needles for our seniors! Thanks to all of our generous donors, these fun supplies will be distributed Friday to an eagerly awaiting crowd.

The Bhutanese community has organized their 2nd Annual harvest party, to share a feast of their crops with the community. Garden tours will show off the families’ unique plots with hand built structures and fencing crafted from repurposed wood.

The Art of Saving Humanity will be donating supplies and assistance for this great workshop put on by art therapist-in-training Elizabeth Coon. The workshop will bring together resettled refugee families from varied cultures in an afternoon of printmaking activities - a fun way to give moms and their kids a chance to sit down together and bond through creative freedom.

Abraham Awalom's artwork now has it's own Etsy shop! We will continually be updating and adding more originals and prints for sale.

Music Day - flute & hand drum playing, dancing & singing!

We will pass out another round of yarn donations to the Bhutanese seniors' group and discuss plans for making products to sell online and at markets.

Elizabeth Coon of Lemon Photography has volunteered her time and talents to get product shots for Mohammad Sabori's jewelry designs on location at The Art of Saving Humanity. Products will later be placed for sale on the Afghanite Artistry website.

Peruse incredible works by locally resettled refugees from around the globe, snack on wine and cheese, and listen to live music from international artists. 

The Art of Saving Humanity will be donating paint and lending a hand at the IRC's Invitation-Only Artvocacy Sip & Paint Evening; an event to benefit the IRC in its work to aid refugees. Artist Olha Moisniuk will be leading the event with painting instructions and demonstration.
